For generations the Mariani family has carried forward this culinary art, a point of reference for lovers of good food and devotees of Cucina Romana. Our menu is a journey through the history and authentic flavors of this tradition: each dish, whose recipe has been handed down from generation to generation, tells a story, and every ingredient is chosen with care to honor the culinary heritage that sets us apart. A separate chapter is deserved by our cellar, carved into the Monte dei Cocci, also known as Monte Testaccio: a historic site dating back to imperial times, formed by the shards of amphorae once used to transport oil and wine, broken and piled up here once emptied. The walls of shards surrounding the cellar ensure constant temperature and humidity, ideal conditions for the preservation and aging of wines. For over a century, Checchino dal 1887 has stood in Testaccio, Roma, for those seeking the authenticity of Roman cuisine in a place where history, memory and flavor intertwine with every course.
