Garibaldi used to stop here, in what was then just a small tavern; today Lo Scarpone is a restaurant dedicated to meat and fish. On the COLLE DEL GIANICOLO, just outside Porta S. Pancrazio at n. 15 of the street bearing the same name, once a small country lane, we find, in a rustic farmhouse, the Ristorante "SCARPONE". What was once an old Osteria has today transformed into one of the most welcoming venues in the city. The comfortable indoor rooms, one more intimate, the other larger with a crackling fireplace on the back wall, are joined in the summer by the spacious gardens and outdoor verandas, where one can fully enjoy that "Venticello de Roma" that blows over the Gianicolo. The proximity of the splendid Villa Pamphili, the city's largest park, and the memory of the orchards and vineyards that once surrounded the venue, have a certain influence on some of Scarpone's typical dishes. Among the tastiest dishes are indeed the Fettuccine vegetariane, recommended for all those who want to enjoy a light yet extremely flavorful dish. The rughetta, the "erba salax" of Ovid and Pliny, completes another specialty of Scarpone: the Tagliata di Manzo. In addition, one can enjoy various appetizers, first and second courses including fish and meats cooked on the enormous grills, and an excellent pizza. To the combination of excellent quality and affordable price, must be added truly impeccable service.
